Yes, I/we’re alive. Yes, my tail is tucked sheepishly between my legs for being such a poor blogger. “But…! But…! I have such good excuses!” No, we’ll have none of that — we shall press on, and give the masses what I know they want: pictures! Yaaaaaaay!

If you’re disappointed that I don’t have more pictures to post from the past 2 1/2 months …you’re not alone :) Suffice it to say that

• buying and “settling into” a new house,
• traveling to the other side of the country for nearly a month, and
• working on two startups

tends to restrict one’s ability to photodocument life. And all this on top of doing what little I can to help take care of The One With Child! But fear not: I’m sure I will more than make up for it in the not-too-distant future, ad nauseum, with toomanytocount Audrey pics once she decides to egress her womb-without-a-view. Until then, enjoy what little fodder I’ve squeaked out, and keep your gas tanks filled ;)

Where to begin?

After my old college roomie Jon moved to Florida, he began talking about how we needed to take a road trip somewhere. Vegas, New York, somewhere different, somewhere out of the ordinary, a trip that we’d remember for the rest of our lives. We talked about it off and on for several years.

And then, this March, I got engaged :)

I think my status change, looming in the not-too-distant future, prompted ol’ Jon to kick the tires on our nebulous road trip concept, and finally press me into committing to doing something. After some discussion, we settled on New York, New York. The Big Apple. The city so nice they named it twice. There were only a few reasons for our choice, but they were fairly compelling. His dad lived there, so room and board would be free. Jon has been to New York many times throughout his life, so he would be familiar with things. And, of course, I had never been. We finally settled on dates: we’d fly out the evening of May 26th, a Thursday, and return on Tuesday May 31st, the day after Memorial Day. Plane tickets were purchased and calendars were marked.

A quick two-day work jaunt out to Camp Pendleton, exactly one year and one month after my last trip. Stayed in Carlsbad once again — although this time in a hotel right on the beach. Definitely an improvement. Work was a one-day affair, with one meeting scheduled for the morning and an afternoon set aside to work with another customer at the same site, installing and demoing our latest beta software. However, their computer lab was being renovated, so we had to postpone (for a later trip! woot!) our plans to install and demo stuff …which left me with an afternoon (2:30pm on) and evening free and to myself. A quick stop by Target for shorts and flip-flops and it was off to the beach…

…from my recent work-related travel to Virginia. Although, none of the pictures are actually from Virginia — most of them (all but one) are from the flight back home, and even then they’re just from our approach to Hartsfield …because it took us right over Atlanta. I love flying over stuff I can recognize.
