…and baby makes three!

That’s right — we’re pregnant!

It’s been a whirlwind several weeks: Nichole tested positive on a home test on Thanksgiving morning, we told our fam that day, and today was the first ultrasound! She’ll be 10 weeks on Saturday; due date is July 29th. Little Audrey’s (I’m convinced “it” is a girl, in which case her name will be Audrey Nichole; my wife thinks I’m on crack, as usual, since there’s of course no way anyone could really know the gender this early. Except me.) heartbeat sounded good and strong.

There’s nothing in this world like hearing the heartbeat of your child for the first time. My child. Wow.

Crisis du jour

…although, in all fairness, it’s one that I take fairly seriously. It’s called Apophis. It’s 390m wide. And it could hit Earth in 31 years time .

So why “Crisis du jour”? Go get Michael Crichton’s latest book, State of Fear. It’s a pretty good novel from the technothriller king — but it’s also his attack on the crisis culture that consumes Western civilization, and America in particular. Global warming is the favored pinata in State of Fear, but there are tangents on similar topics and their …utility in popular culture. Extremely interesting reading.
